Oneder The Sea
Hey friends!
Today, I’m coming at you with a throwback post of Lyla’s 1st birthday party theme! I never got a chance to share the details from that party, and I figured I’d share in case any of you have mermaid-loving girls. When I picked this theme for her first birthday, it was primarily because mermaids were insanely popular. The new “Little Mermaid” movie also came out, making finding decorations easy. I also think it’s a cute theme for little ones born in the warmer months because you can set up water activities to get the full mermaid experience!
So, let’s talk about decorations. I’ll just come right out and say that my Cricut was used A LOT! It was seriously a lifesaver when bringing my ideas to life. For her paper mache 1 and letters, I spray painted them and added a layer of glitter. Once they were dry, I used the Cricut to create intricate mermaid and sea life designs. These were probably my favorite decorations that I made. It took a lot of work, but the outcome made every minute worth it!
I also used the Cricut to create her banner, cake topper, and first-year garland. Behind her banner, I taped up streamers to create a pretty backdrop for the dessert table. For the tabletop decor, I took wine bottles, spray painted them, and then used twine, rhinestones, and a few other materials to decorate them so I could use them as vases. On the gift table, I also put a sign I made on Canva as a nod to The Little Mermaid song. We also did a balloon arch over the gift table, which was fun but way too big for our tiny dining room :). I purchased some fake seashells and scattered them around the table, too. For her high chair banner, I bought some sparkly tulle in the colors that matched her theme and followed an easy tutorial on YouTube.
Now, lets talk about the food! We purchased her cake and cupcakes from a bakery here in town that does AMAZING custom cakes! They did a phenomenal job and I was very impressed. We kept things light and did a lot of snack food for the guests including a meat and cheese platter and some “Ocean Water”. For the utensil holder I decorated a couple of mason jars to make them look like mermaids to help tie the food/drink station together.
Mom and dad also bought custom “mermom” and “merdad” shirts to wear for the party. We of course had to make sure the guest of honor was dressed to the nines, so I bought Lyla a custom shirt from Etsy and found a mermaid inspired tutu for her party outfit. I spent a lot of time party prepping, but I loved every minute of it! I love making my loved ones feel special and being a mom, this is one of those things I look forward to doing. I can’t wait to share more party theme inspo in the future!
Thank you all for reading and I’ll talk to you again in my next post!
Love, Brandi
