Baby #2: First Trimester Recap

Hey friends!

Wow, it’s been a while since I’ve posted here! I’ve just been really busy working, enjoying toddlerhood with Lyla (minus the tantrums 😜), and, you know, growing a baby!!! Keeping this a secret has been SO hard! So many times, I almost slipped up and shared it on social media.

We found out we were pregnant in early February, and the weeks leading up to me taking the test, I had this gut feeling that I was. Once my period was a few days late, I decided to take a test (don’t worry, I didn’t set the security alarm off at Target this time LOL). Lyla was in the bathtub, and while she was playing, I decided to take it. Well, of course, there’s no privacy when you have a toddler, so naturally she was asking me, “What’s that blue thing?”. When I turned it over and saw it was positive, I knew we were going to have to tell Kent. So, I got Lyla out of the bath, got her in her jammies, and had her hand the news over to daddy! :) Anyway, we are over the moon and incredibly grateful for this blessing. We can’t wait to watch Lyla become a big sister!

So, let’s get into how the first trimester has been! I’ll admit, when I found out I was pregnant with this baby, I was preparing myself for the worst. I had a fairly easy pregnancy with Lyla, so naturally I assumed the second one would consist of morning sickness and I’d be miserable. However, much to my surprise, I never once got sick! Sure, there have been some more aches and pains this time around, and I still experienced a lot of fatigue early on, but I chalk that up to chasing a toddler around! No time for rest when you’ve got another little one keeping you busy 24/7.

I tell everyone, I don’t know how I got so lucky with both pregnancies to not experience any nausea, but I’m thankful to be feeling well. So far, there haven’t been too many differences from this one and my first. However, I did find out at my first ultrasound that my placenta is posterior. It was anterior with Lyla, so maybe I’ll feel this baby move sooner?! We’ll see! Speaking of my first ultrasound, it was so fun seeing the baby for the first time. The technician said it looked like the baby was waving and doing a little dance. Hearing this information confirms what everyone says about siblings. They tend to be complete opposites! Lyla liked to hide her face whenever we had ultrasound appointments. Another difference I noted was that this baby’s heartbeat has ranged from the 140s to 150s, and Lyla’s was always in the 160s. So, for those who believe in the old wives’ tales, you can start making your predictions on the gender! 😛

Lyla said from day one it’s a girl, but we’ll find out officially on May 22nd! That is all I have to share right now, but make sure you are following me over on Instagram at @aprettylittlesparkle for daily updates! Thanks for reading. I’ll talk to you again in my next post.

Love, Brandi
