Baby #2 Second Trimester Recap

Hey friends!

Wow, I can’t believe we are already in the middle of July! This past weekend, we celebrated Kent’s birthday, and in two weeks, we’ll be celebrating Lyla’s 3rd birthday! Lots of celebrating in our household! I hope all of you are doing well and enjoying your Summer!

Today, I wanted to hop on here and share a recap of my second trimester with baby #2! For starters, in case you missed it, we are having another GIRL! Lyla gets her baby sister, and we are over the moon about bringing another little girl into the family. It’s funny, I used to tell myself I wanted one boy and one girl. However, after having Lyla, I fell in love with being a girl mom, and so I’m excited for all the girly things to come!

One of the more exciting things to happen this trimester was feeling the baby move for the first time. I started feeling small flutters around 18-19 weeks. With Lyla, I didn’t feel her move until a little after 20 weeks. I’ve also noticed that this baby’s kicks are lower and she’s not as wild as Lyla was. As time has gone on, the kicks have ramped up, but Lyla was such a wiggle worm inside the womb (still is, haha), so it’s been interesting to see the differences between the two pregnancies. Speaking of differences, I’ve been experiencing more pelvic girdle pain and lower back pain. I remember experiencing a little bit of the pelvic girdle pain with Lyla, but it wasn’t until much later. This time, it showed up shortly after I entered my second trimester and has progressively gotten more painful. I spoke with my doctor, and she recommended wearing a maternity band when I’m expected to be on my feet for long periods. I wore it to the zoo a few weeks ago, and I will say it did help me last longer at the zoo and make the pain more tolerable.

Some other things I noticed in this trimester were the headaches and a sensitive stomach. The headaches weren’t anything crazy, and I think most of them have just been due to dehydration/doing too much. Luckily, they weren’t frequent enough to worry me or my doctor. My stomach has been more sensitive to certain foods this pregnancy, though. As much as I love spicy food, I don’t think it agrees with baby, and the same goes for if I have takeout. I’ve noticed that the grease from fast food makes me uncomfortable sometimes. So, I’ve been trying to limit that from my diet to keep me and baby happy.

Yesterday, I had a doctor appointment and had to take my gestational diabetes test. Thankfully, I passed that, and then my doctor and I discussed labor and delivery. As I mentioned in my first trimester recap, my doctor recommended a C-section with this baby. So, we went ahead and scheduled that. I’m still nervous about what that will look like, but I am confident in my decision. From here until 36 weeks, I’ll be having check-ups every two weeks, which is crazy to think that we are already at this point. In just about 12 weeks, our baby girl will be here (unless baby girl has other plans 😉)! We can’t wait to meet her, and I’m so excited for Lyla to have a lifelong best friend!

Lyla is going to be such a great big sister. She loves talking to my belly and saying hi to the baby. Sometimes, she’ll take a flashlight and flash it over my belly to see if baby sis will move. It’s so sweet to watch! When we found out she was having a baby sister, we went to the store to grab some binkies, and Lyla asked to buy her a stuffy. We plan to have them exchange gifts when they meet for the first time. Lyla has also told me that when baby sister arrives, she’ll finally sleep in her big girl bed so that she can protect baby sister. I’m not convinced that will happen just yet, but we’ll see 🙂.

All right, friends, that is all I have for my second trimester recap! I hope you all enjoyed reading this post, and I’ll share more at a later date. Stay tuned! ✨

Love, Brandi
